​On March 10, 2025, a serious school bus accident occurred on the Garden State Parkway in Montvale, New Jersey, resulting in multiple injuries. The bus, carrying 31 passengers, veered off the roadway near milepost 170.5 and overturned. ​

Among the injured were 14 children and the 44-year-old driver, Joseph Itzkowitz from Lakewood, New Jersey. One child sustained serious injuries, while the driver suffered moderate injuries; the remaining 13 children experienced minor injuries. 

The passengers were en route to New York State to celebrate the birth of a rabbi's grandchild. The accident prompted a significant emergency response, with visuals showing the bus on its side and the emergency door open. 

Montvale Mayor Mike Ghassali and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy acknowledged the incident, with state police and transportation officials investigating the cause of the crash.
